5 Cheap Ways to Spend New Year's Eve →
via jordanreid:
From LifestylerMag.com, here are five inexpensive NYC New Year’s Eve options, including the last place in the world you will find me tonight: at the Brooklyn New Year’s Eve 3.3M “Fun Run.”
Some more inexpensive or free options can be found at freenyc.net, including masquerades, parties held on multiple floors of converted factories, and other fun stuff.

Pops and Metadata
Geeking out about metadata as we plan to rebuild our current database using Omeka. Remembering the fun times at GMU and in DC with my favorite pink-coated, hippo-lovin’ gal.
Also, New York City is really great, but there’s at least one thing that is really hard to come by: really big fountain pops. And yeah, I said pops, not “sodas.”

Re: Stereotyping People by their Favorite Authors
I gotta say, this list annoys the helllll out of me. It’s so trite. But it did enable me to learn something new about you (Mark Twain!), so for that reason alone: thanks for posting!

Thanks, Dan!
Also, no love for Mark Twain, apparently. To this day, Tom Sawyer is one of my favorite books ever. Did you know that?

History Pub Crawls →
I’ve been keen on this idea since I first heard about a pub crawl in Philadelphia that combined knowledge of colonial-era taverns and drinking habits with actual present-day taverns and drinking shenanigans. And now the Chicago Historical Society is in on it, proving that they are still the coolest big-city historical society. I effing love it.

There’s an elaborate story for this link. I have my Uncle Johnny for the gift exchange for family Christmas this year. He and his wife are, for unexplained reasons, obsessed with Norway. (We are not in any way Scandinavian.) So I decided that I might check out my local resources for flag or Norway-related gifts: United Nations, possibility of Norwegian embassy. Performed Google search...

More portrait talk!
Portraits of Power was an exhibition at the Corcoran this past year. I guess I could look up whether the exhibition is still on view, but I’m too lazy to leave Tumblrland right now.
Good article.
